The Portrait Mirror was invented in Aug. 2020 during pandemic lockdown, by Yong and David, a father-son team.
The initial idea started when David and Yong wanted to take more portraits for family, since everyone was working/studying from home during the lockdown. As a portrait photography hobbyist, Yong started setting up a small studio in the living room, using himself as the model to experiment different lighting setups. He quickly realized that it is not easy to take self portrait with digital camera.
After some discussions, David and Yong invented a device called ‘Portrait Mirror’. It allows people see the camera screen and look at the lens at the same time, making self-portraiture much easier and fun! The patent was filed on Aug. 2020. A prototype was created soon after (as shown above).
Since then David and Yong used Portrait Mirror to test lighting setups, and took a lot of portraits of every family members, including themselves of course. About 4 thousands photos were within the month of Oct. alone.
David and Yong are working on two prototypes these day, trying to put them to the market asap, and hoping more people can use Portrait Mirror to create more and better portraits.
